Bio
Pascale Boulle is a French-born painter, based in Sydney since 1989. After graduating from the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Bordeaux, her work was chosen for inclusion in a national travelling art show for French art students. She then worked in Paris before coming to Australia. Pascale has shown with Arthur Boyd at Wagner Gallery, participated in several group exhibitions, and had a solo show at Alliance Française, Sydney.
Statement
She has worked with ink on paper, acrylic on canvas, before turning to the complex potentials of oils on canvas. Pascale uses the strong Australian light to instigate her attention to colour and detail. Utilizing unusual close angles and discovering stark moments of light and shade, her work aims to induce an experience of intimacy with nature’s forms and forces.
But in avoiding the constraints of mere botanical painting, Pascale seeks to reveal those arresting moments of experience when we lose ourselves in visual spectacle. Including the abstract we find in nature, the forced return of built forms back to nature, and close perspectives on living forms, her artworks aim to seize the viewer’s gaze and direct it to unusual instants of aesthetic insight.
